Handicap renovations are similar to regular ones except special attention to meeting handicap standards.
Tub to Shower: Tub is converted to a shower – footprint stays the same. Special acrylic shower system is installed with a rod and curtain for best access. Built-in bench and shelves are standard – custom shower may be necessary and costs for this are slightly higher but will provide features required such as a totally flat shower pan.
Wall-Mounted Vanity: This allows the user to slide wheelchair/walker under the vanity much like a make-up table. Mirror, switches and plugs are all lowered making the vanity easy to use.
Toilet: Handicap standards require a higher elongated design toilet with grab bars – a variety of toilet models are available meeting these standards.
Accessories: Towel bars and hooks are set lower for easy access.
Entry door: Entry doors should swing out from the bathroom for safety and provide extra room inside – we install larger doors to provide best ease of access with wheelchair or walker.
Flooring: Non-slip bathroom flooring can be tile or vinyl – all colours and styles are available and special attention is paid to the non-slip aspect.
